Mission

Thousands of Buildings Need Weatherization

It is estimated that there are over 170,000 owner-occupied residences in Vermont.

A small percentage of these are new construction that meets ENERGY STAR® qualifications for building efficiency. The vast majority of these buildings, however, were not built to today's energy efficiency standards or have lost their efficiency over the years. There is a significant opportunity for gains in statewide thermal efficiency through energy renovation efforts.

There are a number of building professionals who specialize in energy renovation. However, the team at CVCAC recognizes that the costs of investing in professional energy renovations can be out of reach for many Vermonters. The Weatherization Skillshop and the DIY Program program have been developed for the do-it-yourself audience.

Many Vermonters take the lead in maintaining and repairing their own homes, and thus have the necessary "handyman" skills to conduct some of their own energy efficiency improvements. The Weatherization Skillshops have been designed to help educate Vermonters around the building science and skills necessary to undertake some of the more complex air sealing and weatherization improvements in a typical Vermont residential structure.
